How it all started …
Back in the 50’s, George Miller worked in many of the factories in Erie but always had a dream of owning his own automotive repair shop. In his spare time, he would repair friends and relatives cars in the driveway of his home back then. In 1962 an opportunity came up where he could lease a Gulf Gas Station with a one bay repair area at the 7 Poplars Motel on Buffalo Rd in Harborcreek (where the new Country Fair is). His business grew steadily and soon it was time to expand to a bigger property. At some point around 1964, a Sinclair gas station in Lawrence Park became vacant. It had various owners, but no one was able to make a go of it. George and Gladys made the decision to lease the property. Business flourished, the residents of Lawrence Park and the PA State Police were steady customers, and all was good. In the mid 60’s the station became a division of United Refining and George began offering Keystone gasoline.
His son Mike came on board in 1975, obtaining his State Inspection license and did light duty repairs. In 1981 Mike started taking classes at the General Motors Training Center in Clarence, NY, and night classes in computerized engine control systems at the Allen Institute in Apollo, PA. Miller’s Auto Repair became one of the first independent shops in the Erie area to offer modern engine and fuel system diagnostics. Mike, as well as the other employees, continued updating there skills by attending new classes when possible.
Moving forward to 1994, George and Gladys retired and Mike and his wife Marie took over the business. Mike and Marie decided to sell the garage in 2001, after an accident left Mike unable to stay in the profession any longer. His head technician, Rob Cyparski, offered to purchase the business and has carried on with the tradition of Miller’s Auto Repair, offering quality, trusted service on most makes and models of vehicles. Rob has extensive training and experience in diagnosing the complicated problems associated with today’s highly complex vehicles.
